About The Event

AnySchoolers families have donated a limited number of zoo passes (first come, first serve) to adults and children who would like to attend Zoo Story Lab and do not have zoo passes. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME at 9:30am for these donated Zoo Passes. The families donating their passes will not be able to stay at the gate and wait for you if you are late, and you'll forfeit your free entrance. At that point, you may purchase a day pass or membership directly from the zoo.

Join volunteer teachers Jessica Batdorf and Vanessa Knight for weekly visits to zoo areas and crafts! Littles (0-5 yrs) read storybooks together, Elementary (5-10ish) listen to Circle Round folktales! Crafts, stories and animals are coordinated to touch subject areas:

  • socio-emotional learning (SEL)
  • reading
  • visual arts
  • geography
  • science/zoology/biology
  • culture/folktakes/social studies

AnySchoolers has no membership fees for calendar activities. ALL ARE WELCOME. Classes are open-access. Registration is one-time for all 6 dates, and registration fee covers ALL dates (even absences). Fees are non-refundable, but you can pass your ticket to another AnySchooler if you would like to arrange that personally (just let us know via website Chat or email that someone will be coming in your stead). Teachers are volunteering their time and planning. Fees cover materials/supplies.

To register late for remaining classes (no prorated amounts), go to the first date of the class ( and register for the class series there.

Each week, we will meet at the outside of the front of the zoo by the "big stones," stop by the Swans and Otters for quick potty trips and coffee fuel-ups inside the main building ("Auditorium")! Then we'll walk to a specific area of the zoo, see the animals together, and stop at a special animal to do storytime, crafts, and conversation! Older kids (5-10) will listen to a Circle Round (podcast here) folktale from that area of the world, coordinated with the special animal we are visiting. Littles will read a picture book (or two!) together from that continent/animal as well. Crafts will follow! BYO snacks/drinks, wagons, strollers, sunscreen, zoo passes.

We hand out scholarships like Oprah's Favorite Things! The only requirements for a scholarship is that you have attended at least three recent activities and that we have the funds available. Here is the request form:
