Kindness Project: Day Nine

Although today's suggestion is as simple as possible, offering kind words and smiles to the people we love can mean so much. It's an excellent way to let the people we love know that we really do love them and enjoy being around them.

Within my own family, we all have a tendency toward perfectionism, which can come across as being overly critical. When we take the time to intentionally offer kind words and smiles to one another, it is a small way to repair the hurt that can come from these sorts of critical comments.

Since childhood, I have believed in the power of words, and I found my own sentiments about them echoed in Dr. Maya Angelou's incredible Master Class from the Oprah Winfrey Network. She speaks:

“Words are things, I’m convinced… Someday we’ll be able to measure the power of words. I think they are things. I think they get on the walls, they get in your wallpaper, they get in your rugs, in your upholstery, in your clothes. And, finally, into you.”

So today, let's find ways to fill our family members up with kind words. After all, I'm sure that every single one of us can remember things that were said to us from when we were children. Words are just that powerful. Let's use them for kindness when we can.
