Heidi Holycross-Lui
Founder, Executive Director
Hello, everyone! I’m Heidi Holycross-Lui, and I live in Lee’s Summit with my husband, our daughter, and two cats. I'm a former Former Intensive English Program instructor turned homeschooling mom. I am a curriculum writer, Learning Experience Designer, and fiber arts enthusiast. Before moving to the Kansas City area, I taught Intensive English classes to adult students at a university in Colorado, where I had the freedom to experiment with new teaching strategies and materials. While there, I made significant revisions to the curriculum and materials we used while also assisting in the preparation of the Intensive English department’s policies for national accreditation, which ignited my love for curriculum writing and educational materials development.
At this time, I no longer focus on creating ESL materials; instead, I have been creating curriculum and materials as a homeschooling parent for various homeschooling communities. I also dabble in web development and learning experience design, and I am working on a Master’s of Science in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology.
I tend to teach writing, mythology, and art/story-based classes with a global cultural theme because I love traveling and learning about cultural practices. Within AnySchoolers, I have been creating the Slow Burn Curriculum for the 2022-2023 year while also hosting a version of my Messy Art Monday events.
My daughter has been homeschooled from the beginning, and she’s eight years old. She loves being in the water, meeting new people, and listening to audiobooks. My husband is originally from Hong Kong, though he’s lived in the US for longer than Hong Kong, and he teaches computer science at a local university.
Things we couldn’t live without: the Epic! App for books, the Libby app for all of the incredible ebooks and audiobooks from our local libraries, and the Flora app for distraction-free timing with the Mind Amend focus tracks on YouTube.
