Join the Hy-Vee dietician for a culinary four class series covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert! This session is for ages 5-9.

About The Event
This class will meet on four consecutive Thursdays: 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, and 11/9. Registration covers all four classes in this series. Age Five needs a parent present. All other parents can leave the store, but need to be back 10 minutes before the ending of class.
Week 1 Creating a Healthy Breakfast Introduction:
Rules of the Kitchen Lesson: Food groups at each meal.
MyPlate Go over myplate and each category
Myplate Trivia Creating a Healthy Breakfast – learning to cook with eggs.
Students will select ingredient from each food group. Make individual egg muffin cups.
Week 2 Build a Better Lunch
Lesson: Reading food label Blind food guessing game
Practice reading label
Packing a health lunch – education lesson on what components to include in a healthy lunch and having a competition to see who builds a lunch box with all of the needed components
Make: Burrito bowl Ingredients: chicken, beans, pre-made rice pkgs, short cut fajita mix
Toppings: guacamole, pico, cheese
Week 3 Dinner Made Easy
Lesson: Dinner time made easy – make a health easy dinner for all to enjoy
Make: Butternut squash mac in cheese
Week 4 Always Room for Dessert
Lesson: Go Slow Whoa foods Smart Dessert – Education on how dessert fits in
Make: Energy Bites
