This year’s theme looks at how humans throughout time have crossed frontiers. For people living in the United States, we often think of the westward expansion of the settlers when we think about frontiers, but those lands were already populated with many different peoples. There are also many other frontiers we’ve crossed as well, including such diverse experiences as women joining the workforce during World War I, Chinese railroad workers building the railways that connected the western edges of North America to the Midwest and beyond, African Americans moving north during the Great Migration, and so on. During an exploration of this theme, we will be working on our presentation skills, including debate and argumentation, learning about primary and secondary sources, and creating documentation of our learning. The end goal is for participants to create a project they can present at one of the state events.
