FRIDAY: Tour & Volunteer at Kanbe's Market (Ages 10+)

Kanbe's Market

3119 Terrace St, Kansas City, MO 64111, USA

12/8/23, 4:00 PM

Kanbe’s Markets is a nonprofit organization providing access to fresh, affordable and healthy foods to people experiencing food insecurity. Join for a tour and then volunteer to sort produce!

This is a tour & volunteer experience in one! All homeschooling students ages 10+ (and their caregivers) are welcome. "We will start with a tour of our facilities and warehouse. During this tour, students and adults will learn how access to fresh and affordable food is crucial for our communities to thrive. And how there is a current barrier for certain areas within the city that is limiting individuals access to said food. We can customize this tour to be more or less informational (redlining, food desserts, landfill information (gasses produced), life expectancy in the areas we serve vs other areas, things like this)

We then will get hands on and sort through donated produce into four tiers. 1.) Good enough to sell 2.) Donate  (food pantries/soup kitchens) 3.) animal feed 4.) Lastly, being a zero waste program - compost.   We are more than happy to make this experience as informational as possible, there is so much to learn about the food system!

*Please note!* Each individual within your group is required to sign up & fill out the attached waiver before beginning their "shift." With our goal to redirect 550,000 pounds of food in 2023, Kanbe’s Markets is so grateful to our community volunteers for providing extra sets of (helping) hands!

No two days are the same at Kanbe’s, so volunteer tasks will vary: from sorting large pallets of produce into one of our four redirection routes, to helping with various organizational/cleaning tasks, or assisting with data entry to track our efforts in providing affordable, fresh produce to everyone in Kansas City. No task is too small when it comes to fighting food insecurity, thank you for signing up to volunteer at Kanbe's!

It's recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

All volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and fill out this liability form"
